AdjustmentSometimes with transaction processing, errors will occur. Adjustments are the corrections initiated by the acquirer to correct any errors that occur when transactions are processed. The types of errors that could occur when processing transactions are a transaction being duplicated by the merchant. There also could be a dispute between the cardholder and the merchant. Adjustments are usually made by the acquirer either debiting or crediting the merchant's account for whatever the amount of the transaction was. If the customer is owed money, the acquirer will also ensure that the customer receives their refund. When considering an acquirer for your business, ask about the adjustment procedures and how they will affect you. You will have errors, and you will want to know how these errors will be corrected. Make sure the acquirer is looking out for the best interests of your customers! Customers will not be happy with your business if their transactions are not handled properly when errors occur.
