Authorization ResponseWhen a vendor swipes a customer's credit card, the financial institution that issued the credit card will send an authorization response to the vendor in response to the request for authorization of the credit card. Most often, the authorization response includes one of three options. If the authorization response comes back as "approved," then that means the credit card transaction was successfully made, and the vendor was credited the amount of the sale. If the response is "declined," that means there were not sufficient funds on the credit card to cover the sale, and the vendor was not paid. If the response says "call center," then that means there was a technical glitch, and in order to find out if the transaction was approved or not, the vender must call the credit card's toll-free authorization line. All of these responses occur within moments of the vendor swiping the credit card at the cash register. More Glossary Terms Explained here |
