Octopus Card

The Octopus card refers to a rechargeable smart card that facilitates the electronic payment over both online and offline systems. It is used in Honk Kong. This contactless stored value smart card has developed into a popular electronic cash system. They are used for all the public transport in Hong Kong and also for making payments at various shopping outlets , eat outs , parking lots and for many other applications. These cards are used for controlling access to offices, schools and other places.

Above all, it can also be used for donation and charity purposes. The card can be used by simply holding above or on the octopus reader. The most impressive of all is it can be recharged with the help of cash at a kind of machine called add-value machines. Some shops also provide the recharging service.

Octopus is one of the most popular electronic cash systems in the world. There are more than fourteen million octopus cards in circulation. This number is surprisingly twice the population of Hong Kong.
