Online Transaction ProcessingOnline transaction processing (OLTP) refers to a class of programs that manage various transaction oriented applications fir data entry and retrieval transaction processing. This term is reckoned as somehow vague and many people refer transaction to computer and database transactions. On the other hand, many others like Transaction Processing Performance Council define it as business or commercial transactions.It also at times, refers to computer processing in which the computer immediately reacts to the users request. The best example for transaction processing is an Automated Teller Machine (ATM). OTP is functional in many industries like banking, airlines, mail-order, supermarkets and manufacturers. Other areas of application of OLTP include electronic banking, order processing, e-commerce, employee time clock systems, e-trading and much more. The most popular and widely installed online transaction processing product is IBM's CICS or Customer Information Control System.
