Smart cardThe smart card is also known as a chip card or integrated circuit card (ICC). It refers to a pocket sized card with embedded integrated circuits. The integrated circuit card is of two broad categories. They are memory cards and micro processor cards. Generally a smart card is perceived as a microprocessor card that is of credit card dimensions and provides security.All chip cards do not contain microprocessor. For instance, memory cards do not contain microprocessor. So not all chip cards are smart cards. The smart card is used as credit or ATM card or as a fuel card. SIM cards that are used in mobile phones, authorization cards in pay television, security and access control cards, public transport and public payment cards etc are example for smart cards. At times, smart cards are also used as electronic wallets.
